With a stroke of a pen, President Donald Trump will make English the official language of the U.S.
According to a report on Fox News Digital, Trump will sign an executive order Friday.
This order rescinds a mandate issued by former President Bill Clinton in 2000.
The mandate required federal agencies and recipients of federal funding to provide language aid to non-English speakers, a White House official said
This will mark the first time the U.S. will have an official language in its nearly 250-year existence. Now, federal agencies will be tasked individually how to handle non-English speaking clients.
“We have languages coming into our country. We don’t have one instructor in our entire nation that can speak that language,” Trump said before the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2024.
“These are languages — it’s the craziest thing —they have languages that nobody in this country has ever heard of. It’s a very horrible thing,” he added.
Trump has signed close to 80 executive since starting his second administration Jan. 20.
