President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign announced his upcoming campaign rally in New Hampshire has been postponed.

On Friday, Tim Murtaugh — communications director for Trump’s re-election campaign — released a statement confirming the abrupt change of plans due to inclement weather.

“The rally scheduled for Saturday in Portsmouth, New Hampshire has been postponed for safety reasons because of Tropical Storm Fay. It will be rescheduled and a new date will be announced soon.”

Murtaugh also took to Twitter with the announcement:

As the president prepared to depart Washington, D.C., for his fundraiser in Florida, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany confirmed that the rally would be postponed for “a week or two,” according to a White House pool report.

The postponement of the rally follows multiple changes for the event.

Due to safety concerns due to the coronavirus, Trump’s campaign previously announced the event would be partially held outdoors in an airplane hangar at the Portsmouth International Airport.

Campaign spokesperson Hogan Gidley also detailed the president’s intent for his rallies.

“All of Donald Trump’s rallies and all of his events are electric,” Gidley previously said. “The president wants to go in there and talk about all the accomplishments he’s done in his first term and how he’s made people’s lives better.”

As one of the 13 battleground states for the 2020 election, New Hampshire is a key focus for the Trump campaign which is why the new date will be announced for the event.

No specific details have been released on the new date, as of publication. The New Hampshire rally would be the president’s second campaign rally since the coronavirus outbreak led to the country’s temporary shut down.
