President Donald Trump has given thought on who would create a winning ticket for the Republican Party in the 2028 presidential election — Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump made that statement Tuesday in response to a question posed by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy at the South Court Auditorium, per Fox News.
Before asking the question, Doocy noted Trump said he would “probably not” seek a third term.
“You could clear the entire Republican field right now,” Doocy said. “Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?”
Trump’s answer included support for both Vance and Rubio as a winning pair.
“Well, I think most likely. In all fairness, he’s the vice president, and I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form,” Trump said.
“I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here. So it’s too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he’s doing a great job,” he added. “And he would be probably favored at this point,” the president added.
Watch:
Rubio and Trump were adversaries during the 2016 primary. Now, he is part of Trump’s Cabinet.
Just last month, Rubio endorsed Vance for 2028.
“I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio said in an interview with Lara Trump on Fox News.
He lauded Vance’s performance as vice president and said he was satisfied as Secretary of State.
Trump could not run for another term since the 22nd Amendment of U.S. Constitution prohibits it.
Many weighed in on their thought of this GOP ticket on X.
