President Donald Trump was blunt with reporters about his immigration policies Wednesday, stating that his administration is getting criminal illegal immigrants out of the U.S. after former President Joe Biden allowed millions of people to illegally cross the southern border during his tenure.
“Most importantly, we have to get the criminals out of our country,” Trump said. “Biden let in thousands, 11,088 murderers. Many of them murdered more than one person, can you believe it? At least 50% of them murdered more than one person, and he let them into our country.”
Trump added that countries with high prison populations simply allowed their criminals to leave and make their way to the U.S. However, Trump noted that these people are now being apprehended and deported, thanks to the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
He continued: “They emptied out the jails of countries from all over the world, from the Congo, Venezuela, from all over the place, they emptied out their jails. Many of them. I would. If I were running one of those countries, I would have emptied out my prison population into the U.S. and many countries did. And we’re getting them out, OK? We’re getting them out.”
According to Newsweek, in the first seven weeks following Trump’s inauguration, ICE reported there has been a total of 28,000 deportations.
