Two Florida deputies have been disciplined over their missteps following comedian Bob Saget’s death.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Hill over the weekend that Deputies Emiliano Silva and Steven Reed were both suspended for more than three days.
Shortly after responding to the scene Silva reportedly told his brother about Saget’s death.
His brother proceeded to share the news on social media.
According to the outlet, the post stayed up on Twitter for 45 minutes before it was deleted.
Reed was off-duty at the time of the investigation but told his neighbors, according to the report.
Saget’s family had not yet been notified when these things happened and the sheriff’s office’s public information officer had not publicly announced the death, as The Hill reported.
The outlet noted the actions violate the department’s dissemination of information directive.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina said in a statement, “This case highlights how important it is to allow detectives in death investigations the time to ensure next of kin notifications are made before that information is disseminated to the public.”
He continued, “The deputies acknowledged their wrongdoing and were disciplined for their actions.”
In January, Saget was discovered in bed in his Orlando hotel room at the age of 65.
His family later released a statement sharing the cause of death.
“The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep,” the statement said.
It continues, “No drugs or alcohol were involved.”

The family explained they have been “overwhelmed with the incredible outpouring of love from Bob’s fans, which has been a great comfort to us and for which we are eternally grateful.”
Concluding their statement, the family said, “As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”
