CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan claimed Nazis “weaponized” free speech so the Holocaust could continue.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the guest on Sunday’s “Face the Nation,” Vice President JD Vance had a harsh response, per Mediaite.

Brennan asked Rubio about comments Vance made in Munich last week

Vance took issue with European NATO allies Tuesday for stifling free speech. He said the enemy of Europe was not Russia or China but the “enemy within.”

Brennan criticized Vance for visiting with leaders of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD party).

“Well, he was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide, and he met with the head of a political party that has far-right views and some historic ties to extreme groups,” Brennan said.

Vance responded with a post on X which mocked Brennan.

“This is a crazy exchange,” Vance wrote Sunday. “Does the media really think the holocaust was caused by free speech?”
