Vance Confronts Protesters, Reacts on Social Media After Interaction

A small group of Ukrainians gather outside the US embassy in Kyiv as the country was rocked by overnight strikes that killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens more. This comes days after US President Trump paused American military and intelligence support for Ukraine, and days ahead of talks between US and Ukrainian negotiators to secure a truce. Vice President J.D. Vance confronts with protesters in person on Saturday and also blasted them later on social media about the interaction.

According to a report on Mediaite, the in-person interaction happened in Cincinnati regarding Ukraine.

For the most part, Vance and protestors had a “mostly respectful” conversation that centered on the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“You’re selling ’em out!” many of the protestors said.

The vice president disagreed with the protester.

“With respect, ma’am, I disagree,” he said. “I think that what we’re doing is we’re actually forcing a diplomatic settlement.”

“They are the aggressor every time!” another protester said of Russia.

“Ma’am, I understand that’s your view—” Vance said before he was interrupted by the protester, who responded, “That’s not our view! It’s the facts!”

Later, Vance posted about the interaction on X, claiming protesters followed him and his 3-year-old daughter. He said he spoke with the protesters “in hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone.”

“It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a s—t person,” Vance wrote on X.

Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of “Slava Ukraini” protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared.

Vance noted he and his daughter were being followed and his daughter “grew increasingly anxious and scared.”

Anne Henry, one of the protesters and member of “Slava Ukraini,” provided video of the interaction. Henry had a different perspective of what happened

“No one was chasing him,” Henry told WCPO. The video showed protesters asking Vance about the war in Ukraine and Russia.

Over the week, Pro Ukraine protesters harassed VP JD Vance to the point that his three year old daughter was getting scared.

VP Vance went to speak with them in an attempt to defuse the situation.

Henry lauded Vance for talking to protesters.

“On social I just wish he wouldn’t have characterized it the way he did on Twitter,” Henry said, adding Vance was not being purposely followed.

“We all wanted it to be respectful and calm. We just really wanted to know what was really bothering us,” Henry said.
