Multiple law enforcement officers were shot Wednesday in southern Virginia, according to an X post from Republican Virginia Rep. John McGuire.

At least three officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting in Gretna, Va., according to WDBJ. While McGuire did not provide further details, he said multiple officers had been shot in Pittsylvania County.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the deputies who were shot in Pittsylvania County, as well as their families. We are closely following the situation and keeping everyone affected in our hearts during this difficult time,” McGuire wrote on X.

According to WDBJ, a source reportedly said officials were in the area serving warrants when a shooting broke out at a home. Reports have not confirmed which agencies the victims represent, but WDBJ said that a SWAT team entered the area after encountering difficulties while removing victims from the home.

Photos and videos have circulated online showing a large police presence following the incident.

Agencies at the scene included the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Danville Police Department, Virginia State Troopers, Gretna Fire and Rescue, Hurt Fire Department, U.S. Marshals, and a Centra helicopter, with additional units reportedly arriving Wednesday evening, according to WDBJ.

At the time of the incident, a WDBJ reporter described a “very heavy scene” at the intersection of Pittsville Road and Homestead Road in Pittsylvania County.

It is unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting or if any additional officers were injured. A public press statement from officials has not been released as of Wednesday evening.
