Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) encountered hecklers while he attended a vigil for victims of a racially motivated shooting.
A video on Sunday showed the governor speaking in Jacksonville, Florida, at a vigil as he said, “We are not going to allow these institutions to be targeted by people…”
However, he was cut off by hecklers.
That prompted Jacksonville City Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman (D) to grab the microphone and shut down the people booing.
“OK, listen y’all… Let me tell you, we need to put parties aside, cause it ain’t about parties today,” she said.
Pittman added, “A bullet don’t know a party. So don’t get me started.”

On Saturday, a white gunman with an AR-15-style rifle, which reportedly had a swastika on it, opened fire in a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, killing three Black people.
CNN noted Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said the gunman “left behind racist writings and used racial slurs.”
The gunman is believed to have shot and killed himself after law enforcement officers entered the store.
In a video statement after the shooting, DeSantis said, “This was racially motivated. He was targeting people based on their race. That is totally unacceptable.”
“This guy killed himself rather than face the music and accept responsibility for his actions. And so he took the coward’s way out,” he added.
