Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) is no friend of Israel, that’s no secret. But her response when asked about reports of murdered babies is quite shocking.
On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Israeli forces found the bodies of 40 babies in a community attacked by Hamas.
And that led Fox News’ Hillary Vaughn to ask Tlaib, a member of the so-called ‘Squad’ and who is Palestinian, about the report.
And the congresswoman’s response — or lack thereof — was disheartening, to say the least.
“Congresswoman, Hamas terrorists have cut off babies’ heads and burned children alive. Do you support Israel’s rights to defend themselves against this brutality?” Vaughn asked.
As Tlaib declined to respond, Vaughn followed her and asked, “You can’t comment about Hamas terrorists chopping off babies’ heads? Congresswoman, do you have a comment on Hamas terrorists chopping off babies’ heads? You have nothing to say about Hamas terrorists chopping off babies’ heads? Do you condone what Hamas has done chopping off babies’ heads, burning children alive, raping women in the streets? You have no comment about children’s heads being chopped off?”

After news broke of Hamas’ attack, Tlaib put out a statement talking about her efforts to fight for a society that upholds human dignity and equal rights, saying, ” No person, no child anywhere should have to suffer or live in fear of violence. We cannot ignore the humanity in each other.”
She then went on to blame the United States for giving “billions in unconditional funding to” Israel, which she said will continue the “heartbreaking cycle of violence.”
It should not be hard to say killing babies is wrong no matter who does it.
And if you support the Palestinian cause, you might want to be especially forceful in condemning such barbarism to separate Palestinian civilians from terrorists.
Now, in fairness to the congresswoman, there are some users on X, formerly Twitter, who are pro-Palestinian and are raising questions about the reports of the babies’ murder, suggesting it is Israeli propaganda.
But even if you are concerned about the authenticity of the story, it shouldn’t be hard to say that, and say something along the lines of, “I haven’t seen confirmation of that story, and I don’t want to comment on unconfirmed reports.”
You cannot conceivably state that Tlaib did not hear the question as Vaughn followed her for quite a while asking the same question over and over. And just ignoring it comes off as heartless and makes it look like her talk about ensuring children don’t suffer violence only applies to one group.
