The Vatican is moving ahead with a roughly €100 million agrivoltaic plant at the Santa Maria di Galeria estate near Rome, expected to produce 80–90 megawatts and power Vatican Radio while advancing energy self-sufficiency for Vatican City; completion is anticipated within 18–24 months with potential surplus electricity shared with Italy and Holy See properties like Bambino Gesù hospital. The project, backed by a joint Italian-Vatican commission and supported by Pope Francis, will combine solar panels with agriculture and will not seek Italian household incentives.
