Alguns anjos têm nomes específicos (como Gabriel ou Michael) ou títulos (como serafim ou arcanjo). Aqueles expulsos do Céu são chamados de anjos caídos, distintos da hoste celestial. Anjos na arte geralmente são moldados como humanos de beleza extraordinária, embora este não seja sempre o caso — às vezes, podem ser retratados de maneira assustadora e desumana.
