El asesinato es el homicidio intencional, mediante un ataque repentino o secreto, de una persona, especialmente una prominente o importante, por lo general por razones políticas, sociales o ideológicas. Los asesinatos pueden ser ordenados por individuos u organizaciones, y ejecutados por sus cómplices. Los actos de asesinato se han realizado desde tiempos antiguos. A la persona que lleva a cabo un asesinato se le llama asesino.
