Birth and origins
Bartholomew nació en Riverston, County Meath, hijo mayor de Sir James Dillon y su esposa Elizabeth Bathe. Su padre fue un Baron of the Exchequer. La familia de su padre era de origen Old English y descendía de Sir Henry Dillon, quien llegó a Irlanda con Prince John en 1185. Su madre era hija de Bartholomew Bathe de Dollardstown Castle, Athy, County Kildare.
