Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, también llamado Gaius o Caligula, fue el tercer emperador romano, gobernando desde el 37 d. C. hasta su asesinato en el 41 d. C. Era hijo del general romano Germanicus y de Agrippina la Mayor, nieta de Augusto, miembros de la primera familia gobernante del Imperio romano. Nació dos años antes de que Tiberio se convirtiera en emperador. Gaius acompañó a su padre, madre y hermanos en una campaña en Germania, cuando tenía poco más de cuatro o cinco años.
