David John Shaw fue un buceador australiano de submarinismo, buceo técnico y piloto de aerolínea para Cathay Pacific. Comenzó a volar para Cathay Pacific en 1989, pilotando el Lockheed L-1011 Tristar, 747-400, A330-300, A340-300 y A340-600. Antes de volar para Cathay Pacific, voló para Mission Aviation Fellowship en Papúa Nueva Guinea y Tanzania. También voló aeronaves agrícolas en Australia del Sur y Nueva Gales del Sur. Shaw era un apasionado buceador de submarinismo y técnico, y murió en 2005 al intentar recuperar un cuerpo atascado en la cueva Boesmansgat de Sudáfrica.
