Elisàr January Emanuel von Kupffer was a Baltic German artist, anthologist, poet, historian, translator, and playwright. He used the pseudonym "Elisarion" for most of his writings. In his later years, Kupffer embraced antisemitic, racist and fascist ideas and became an enthusiastic supporter of Adolf Hitler, whom he addressed in admiring letters in 1940 and 1942, and sought to associate his own ideas with the political project of the Third Reich.
