A rare E39 BMW M5 prototype commissioned by Volkswagen chief Ferdinand Piëch pairs the sedan with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter W10 engine, producing more power than the standard V8 and retaining a six-speed manual. The experimental car, part of Volkswagen’s narrow-angle-engine development that led toward the Bugatti Veyron’s W16, is heading to auction in Belgium with an estimate of €250,000 to €350,000.
