El genocidio es la destrucción parcial o total de un grupo humano, cometida intencionalmente. La opinión popular concibe el genocidio como el asesinato a gran escala de individuos, pero en los ámbitos académicos y legales, el genocidio ocurre cuando el propio grupo es el objetivo. Los actos de genocidio incluyen el asesinato así como actos no letales como impedir la reproducción dentro del grupo, la transferencia forzosa de niños a otro grupo, y el genocidio cultural.
