Hay varios tipos de regalos en el derecho de propiedad, más notablemente los regalos inter vivos que se realizan durante la vida del donante y los regalos causa mortis (en lecho de muerte) que se realizan en expectativa de la muerte inminente del donante. Ambos tipos de regalos comparten tres elementos que deben cumplirse para que el regalo sea legalmente efectivo: intención donativa, la entrega del regalo al donatario y la aceptación del regalo.
