Government College Umuahia (GCU) is a boys' boarding secondary school at Umudike, near Umuahia in Abia State, southeastern Nigeria. It opened in 1929 as a colonial government teacher-training institution and became a secondary school in 1930. Conceived as one of the small number of elite government colleges in British Nigeria, it adopted many features of the British public-school system while drawing pupils from Nigeria, the British Cameroons and other West African territories.
