Join the roomGranville Sharp foi um estudioso, filantropo inglês e um dos primeiros ativistas pela abolição do tráfico de escravos na Grã-Bretanha. Nascido em Durham, inicialmente trabalhou como funcionário público no Board of Ordnance. Seu envolvimento no abolicionismo começou em 1767, quando defendeu uma pessoa escravizada gravemente ferida de Barbados em um processo judicial contra seu senhor. Cada vez mais dedicado à causa, ele continuamente buscou casos de teste contra as justificativas legais para a escravidão e, em 1769, publicou o primeiro panfleto na Inglaterra que atacava explicitamente o conceito de escravidão.
