The Nigerian House of Representatives passed the constitutional amendment to establish state police, following President Tinubu’s transmitted bill, as part of strengthening the security architecture. The passage was marred by walkouts from the Minority Caucus who alleged due-process and constitutional procedure breaches, with disputes over clause-by-clause consideration and Section 9 of the 1999 Constitution.
The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of Nigeria's bicameral National Assembly. The Senate is the upper chamber.
