El hielo es agua que se congela en un estado sólido, típicamente formándose a o por debajo de temperaturas de 0 °C, 32 °F o 273.15 K. Ocurre de forma natural en la Tierra, en otros planetas, en objetos de la nube de Oort y como hielo interestelar. Como un sólido inorgánico cristalino de origen natural con una estructura ordenada, el hielo se considera un mineral. Dependiendo de la presencia de impurezas como partículas de suelo o burbujas de aire, puede aparecer transparente o de un color blanco azulado más o menos opaco.
