John Irving fue un jugador de baloncesto universitario estadounidense mejor conocido por su carrera en Hofstra, que duró de 1974–75 a 1976–77. También pasó una temporada (1972–73) en Arizona antes de transferirse. Irving, un power forward/center de 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) y 215 lb (98 kg), registró 1018 puntos y 1186 rebotes durante su carrera de tres años en Hofstra.
