John Locke fue un filósofo y médico inglés, ampliamente considerado como uno de los pensadores más influyentes de la Ilustración y comúnmente conocido como el "padre del liberalismo". Sus obras importantes incluyen A Letter Concerning Toleration (1689), Two Treatises of Government (1689/90), ambas publicadas de forma anónima, y An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1689/90).
