About John Ridge
John Ridge, nacido Skah-tle-loh-skee, provenía de una familia prominente de la Nación Cherokee, entonces ubicada en lo que hoy es Georgia. Fue a Cornwall, Connecticut, para estudiar en la Foreign Mission School. Conoció a Sarah Bird Northrup, de una familia yanqui de Nueva Inglaterra, y se casaron en 1824. Poco después de su regreso a New Echota en 1825, Ridge fue elegido para el Consejo Nacional Cherokee y se convirtió en un líder de la tribu.
