"Light Years Away" is a song recorded by Hong Kong singer-songwriter G.E.M. released on 30 December 2016. It is the Chinese theme song for the American sci-fi film Passengers. The music video for the song is the first by a Hong Kong artist to reached 100 million views on YouTube. It is also the twelfth Chinese music video to reach 100 million views and the fastest music video by a Chinese female singer to reach 100 million views on YouTube. On 17 March 2019, it has become the most viewed Chinese music video among female singers on YouTube, with a view count of over 177M. The song reached 250 million views on YouTube by October of 2022. Background She was invited to write the song because of her influence in China and her songwriting skill. After she watched few scenes of the film, she was touched by the love between the two characters. She then wrote different demos and chose this as the final work.
