La memoria es la facultad de la mente por la cual los datos o la información se codifican, almacenan y recuperan cuando es necesario. Es la retención de información a lo largo del tiempo con el propósito de influir en la acción futura. Si los eventos pasados no pudieran recordarse, sería imposible que se desarrollaran el lenguaje, las relaciones o la identidad personal. La pérdida de memoria suele describirse como olvido o un trastorno como la amnesia.
