Michael Barnes is an American politician and attorney from North Carolina. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as a member of the Charlotte City Council from 2005 to 2013. Barnes served mayor pro tempore from 2013 to 2015, and briefly served as acting mayor of Charlotte in 2014 following the resignation of Patrick Cannon following his arrested on corruption charges. He unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Charlotte in the 2015 election.
