Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev fue un político soviético y ruso que fue el último líder de Soviet Union desde 1985 hasta la disolución del país en 1991. Sirvió como General Secretary of the Communist Party desde 1985, y adicionalmente como jefe de estado desde 1988. Ideológicamente, inicialmente se adhirió a Marxism–Leninism, pero se movió hacia social democracy a principios de los años 1990.
