En Australia, el asesinato es un delito penal en el que una persona, mediante un acto voluntario u omisión, causa la muerte de otra persona con la intención de matar, la intención de infligir daño corporal grave o con indiferencia temeraria hacia la vida humana. También puede surgir en circunstancias en las que el acusado estaba cometiendo, o ayudando en la comisión, de un delito grave diferente que resulta en la muerte de una persona. Generalmente se castiga con cadena perpetua.
