Nigel David Short é um grande mestre de xadrez inglês, colunista, treinador e comentarista que é o Diretor da FIDE para o Desenvolvimento do Xadrez desde setembro de 2022. Short conquistou o título de grande mestre aos 19 anos e foi classificado como o terceiro melhor do mundo pela FIDE de julho de 1988 a julho de 1989. Em 1993, tornou-se o primeiro jogador inglês a disputar uma partida pelo Campeonato Mundial de Xadrez, quando se qualificou para jogar contra Garry Kasparov no campeonato mundial da PCA em Londres, onde Kasparov venceu por 12½ a 7½.
