
Una monja es una mujer que hace voto de dedicar su vida a la oración, el servicio religioso y la contemplación, generalmente viviendo bajo votos de pobreza, castidad y obediencia en el recinto de un monasterio o convento. El término se usa a menudo indistintamente con hermanas religiosas, quienes hacen votos simples pero viven una vocación activa de oración y trabajo caritativo en la sociedad más amplia.
