Un obituario es un artículo sobre una persona recientemente fallecida. Los periódicos suelen publicar obituarios como artículos de noticias. Aunque los obituarios tienden a enfocarse en los aspectos positivos de la vida del sujeto, este no siempre es el caso. Según Nigel Farndale, el editor de obituarios de The Times, los obituarios deberían ser "relatos equilibrados" escritos en un estilo "neutral", y no deberían leerse como una hagiografía.
