Pericles, nombrado en honor al líder ateniense Pericles, era un barco de vela de tres mástiles con casco de hierro de 1.598 toneladas, que fue construido por W. Hood & Co de Aberdeen, y botado en julio de 1877 para transportar lana para la Aberdeen Line.
