A série é estrelada por JoAnna Garcia e é baseada no livro de 2008 da Alloy Entertainment How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls, de Zoey Dean. A série originalmente teria o mesmo nome do livro, mas o nome foi anunciado nos upfronts como Surviving the Filthy Rich e depois alterado novamente para Privileged em 24 de junho de 2008. Foi produzida pela Alloy Entertainment em associação com a Warner Bros. Television com os produtores executivos Rina Mimoun, Bob Levy e Leslie Morgenstein. Michael Engler dirigiu o piloto.
