Sappho fue botada en Shields en 1785. Pasó la mayor parte de su carrera comerciando con el Báltico, aunque realizó algunos viajes a otros lugares, y en particular, entre 1788 y 1799 realizó un viaje a las Falkland Islands como ballenero. Fue listada por última vez en 1798, habiendo sido quizás capturada a fines de 1797.
