La Unión Soviética, oficialmente la Unión de Repúblicas Socialistas Soviéticas (URSS), fue un país transcontinental que abarcó gran parte de Eurasia desde su formación en 1922 hasta su disolución en 1991. Fue el tercer país más poblado del mundo, el más grande por área y limitaba con otros doce países. Un estado multinacional diverso, se organizó como una unión federal de repúblicas nacionales, siendo la más grande y poblada la República Socialista Federativa Soviética de Rusia (RSFSR). El estado comunista insignia del mundo, fue gobernado por el Partido Comunista bajo el marxismo-leninismo, a través de consejos soviéticos. La economía soviética también estaba planificada centralmente. Su capital y ciudad más grande era Moscú.
