Overview
Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft under license by Lucasfilm Games. The game takes place during the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and is set to be released in 2024.
Gameplay
Star Wars Outlaws is a single-player, third person action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. Set in an open world, the game will feature stealth and open combat, vehicle combat, space combat, and branching dialogue. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, players take control of outlaw scoundrel Kay Vess (portrayed by Humberly González) and her companion Nix (portrayed by Dee Bradley Baker) as they "attempt one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen". Kay will travel to a variety of planets across the Star Wars universe, including a number previously featured in continuity such as Tatooine, Kijimi and Akiva, as well as at least one original planet created for the game, the moon of Toshara, which is inspired by the landscape of the Tanzania Savannah.
Development
On 13 January 2021, Ubisoft announced that a Star Wars game was in development by Massive Entertainment and under license by Lucasfilm Games. The game will have a focus on its story and open-world. Massive Entertainment began recruiting additional members to their development team, in part due to developing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora alongside it.
A cinematic trailer was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023. The following day, ten minutes of gameplay footage was revealed at the Ubisoft Forward showcase. The game is scheduled to release in 2024 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. It uses the Snowdrop game engine. The game's development is led by game director Mathias Karlson and creative director Julian Gerighty. Nikki Foy is the lead writer, and Navid Khavari the narrative director.
