Stone era uma comunidade mineira nomeada em homenagem a Galen Stone, chefe da Pond Creek Coal Company, que tinha sede em Stone. Em 1922 a Pond Creek Coal Company foi vendida para Fordson Coal Company, que era uma subsidiária da Ford Motor Company. Em 1936 Fordson vendeu a mina em Stone para Eastern Coal Company.
