Superintendent is the title given to a person who is a leader of a Christian denomination at the regional or national level in some Protestant denominations. They usually perform the function of an elected bishop, but are constrained by synodical governance and do not claim episcopal apostolic succession in a sacramental sense, but mearly ministerial apostolic succession.
