The Enemy Below

The Enemy Below is a story of a battle at sea, written by Denys Rayner. It is fiction, but based on the author’s experiences during the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II. It was published in 1956. A 1957 film starring Robert Mitchum and Curd Jürgens was based on the novel, but with major changes to characters and action, including making the destroyer an American ship. Plot The story covers four days in September 1943.
