Além do nórdico antigo Þórr, a divindade ocorre no inglês antigo como Thunor, no frísio antigo como Thuner, no saxão antigo como Thunar, e no alto alemão antigo como Donar, todos derivando em última instância do teônimo protogermânico *Þun(a)raz, que significa 'Thunder'.
