Uber, WeRide Secure Spain’s First Level 4 Permit
Spain's Directorate General of Traffic granted WeRide, Uber, and AVOMO the country's first national Level 4 autonomous-vehicle permit, authorizing an initial 20-vehicle Madrid fleet for mapping, route validation, and readiness testing ahead of planned commercial operations by end-2026. This milestone under the ES-AV framework positions Madrid as the fourth city in their expansion toward tens of thousands of autonomous rides across 15 cities by 2030, with in-car specialists supervising the initial phase.
