Junto con Mankind y The Castle of Perseverance, forma una colección de moralidades inglesas tempranas llamada "The Macro Plays". Wisdom representa la lucha entre el bien y el mal; como alegoría, representa a Cristo y Lucifer batallando por el Alma del Hombre, con Cristo y la bondad finalmente victoriosos. Data entre 1460 y 1463, la obra se conserva en su forma completa en el Macro Manuscript, actualmente parte de la colección de la Folger Shakespeare Library. Un fragmento manuscrito de las primeras 754 líneas también pertenece a la Bodleian Library. Aunque el autor de Wisdom permanece anónimo, el manuscrito fue transcrito y firmado por un monje llamado Thomas Hyngman. Algunos estudiosos han sugerido que Hyngman también fue el autor de la obra.
