New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang (D) says he has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Yang wrote, “After testing negative as recently as this weekend, I have taken a positive COVID rapid test. I’m experiencing mild symptoms, but am otherwise feeling well & in good spirits. I’m quarantining & adhering to public health guidelines until I can get back out on the campaign trail.”

“Evelyn already has me very well-contained and cared for,” he said.

“In all seriousness if you want me to feel better donate to my campaign! Then I can relax.”

Yang rose to prominence when he mounted a bid for the Democrat’s 2020 presidential nomination.

In January 2021, the entrepreneur announced that he would run for the Democratic Party’s nomination for mayor of New York City, vowing to implement a massive relief program to help the city recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson for Yang’s campaign said he received the positive test from a home rapid test.

“During this time, I will continue to attend as many virtual events as possible, in addition to working with our incredible campaign team to continue our mission of getting New York City back on its feet,” Yang said.

He added, “When the time is right, I look forward to once again hitting the campaign trail and advancing a positive vision for our city’s future.”
