Actress Zooey Deschanel and “Property Brothers” star Jonathan Scott are talking about their unexpected romance following their engagement.
In an exclusive interview with People, Scott, 45, gave insight into the early days of their relationship.
“When we first started dating, Zooey posted a picture of us together. It might’ve been the very first time we ever posted anything on social media,” he explained. “And I remember I looked at it and I saw the first comment right below was, ‘Why the hell is she with a Property Brother?!’”
He added, “I was like, ‘Excuse me—rude!'”
“Why wouldn’t I be with you?” Deschanel, 43, inquired. “Our personalities are so compatible. It’s just that we’re from different worlds.”
Regarding their relationship, Scott admitted he “did not see it coming” and described his fiance as “somebody who cares to make sure you get through the hard moments as well.”
The pair were both previously married and Deschanel has two children with her ex-husband, producer Jacob Pechenik. Scott proudly referred to himself as their “bonus dad.”
“They have even more people to love them,” he noted.
Deschanel also chimed in, describing their family as “very deeply rooted and very blended.”
The couple got engaged in August 2022. During the interview, she revealed whether the pair had solidified their wedding plans.
“We’ve just been basking in engaged bliss and haven’t really figured out anything,” she shared.
However, she shared, “We do love to throw a party.”
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET), Deschanel reminisced on meeting Scott during an episode of “Carpool Karaoke,” a segment from “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
“This was, like, my meet-cute with Jonathan, my boyfriend. It’s so sweet to see this. How many people can say they have them meeting their partner — the whole, like, first meeting on video?” she said.
She continued, “I don’t think that many people can say that — with our siblings present. Not many people!”
