Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) acknowledged voters might be struggling to make up their minds on who they are going to vote for in the upcoming presidential election.

Still, she encouraged them to take a close look at what will be driving their decision.

“Look, you may not fall in love with who you’re voting for, but if you just look at on a piece of paper the issues that are impacting you every day, whether it’s that you’ve got relatives who have been impacted by the COVID virus, or you’re unemployed, or trying to get that extra check, that unemployment, that $600,” Harris told theGrio.

She added, “Or you look at who is going to pay attention to whether the black community is going to have equal access to a vaccine when it’s created, and you’ll know there is so much on the line in this election.”

“It’s not only saying that people need to vote to honor the ancestors…Let’s also remember why they don’t want us to vote.” Sen. @KamalaHarris talks voter suppression, Trump’s attacks and the racial wealth gap in a new 1-on-1 interview with @theGrio: https://t.co/pdCpFXqJbh pic.twitter.com/YQsQAXjeBA

Harris said when Americans vote they have the ability to elect an administration that will focus on “closing the racial wealth gap” and “addressing bias and racism in the system, including the criminal justice system.”

She explained Americans should recognize some do not want them to vote because it is a way to “strip” them of the “power” of their voices.

“I strongly believe we have to be heard and not let them stop us or prevent us or deter us from exercising our voices and making sure our voice is strong in this election,” Harris said.

Harris’ comments come soon after presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden selected her as his running mate, as IJR previously reported.

He called her a “fearless fighter for the little guy” and “one of the country’s finest public servants.”

Harris would be the first Black woman to serve as vice president if Biden wins the upcoming presidential election.
