House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is offering her prayers and well-wishes to President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after they tested positive for COVID-19 but she is acknowledging the diagnosis may be a result of his behavior.

“Well, of course, as with everyone, we all received that news with great sadness,” Pelosi said.

She added, “I always pray for the president’s family that they’re safe. Continue to do so more intensified, and I know that he’ll have the best of care, and that’s what we want for everyone in our country.”

Pelosi noted Trump’s campaign rallies and his choice not to wear a mask could be the reason for his diagnosis.

“But more than learning it has to be something that is acted upon,” Pelosi said.

She continued, “This is tragic. It’s very sad. But it also is something that, again, going into crowds, unmasked and all the rest was sort of a brazen invitation for something like this to happen.”

“Sad that it did, but nonetheless, hopeful that it will be a transition to a saner approach to what this virus is all about.”

Pelosi argued it is crucial to have testing, tracing, treatment, social distancing, mask-wearing, and sanitation.

Trump announced the news in a tweet early Friday, as IJR previously reported.

He and the first lady will begin the quarantine process immediately.

Melania Trump took to Twitter to update Americans on how she is feeling.

“Thank you for the love you are sending our way. I have mild symptoms but overall feeling good. I am looking forward to a speedy recovery,” she said.

Following the first presidential debate between Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, the former vice president and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) were tested for COVID-19.

Harris and Biden reported on Friday that they tested negative.

“Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden underwent PCR testing for COVID-19 today and COVID-19 was not detected. I am reporting this out in my capacity as both Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden’s primary care physician,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a statement, according to Biden’s campaign.
